Tampines is a network town rather than a destination town. Family bikes are the bulk of what we see. Kids' bikes with seized chains, and tyres that have been flat so long the sidewall has creased.
The other half is people using the connector runs to Punggol and Marina Bay properly, on bikes worn out by real mileage. Coney Island at the end of the Punggol route is unpaved, so that adds sand into the drivetrain.
